Two young female tourists spent 15 days climbing in the Longs Peak area of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado, USA, in August 2024, when they accidentally captured an unusual creature on camera. Jessie Klauson and her friend Camilla Avarella usually posted their climbing photos on social media, but recently, they shared a photo that sparked intense discussion and was widely reposted.
The photo initially appeared to be just a beautiful morning shot of the mountain with a hovering gray cloud, but in the center of the image, a strange “shape” could be seen. Upon zooming in, the “shape” transformed into a very slender, humanoid figure that seemed to be climbing the steep rock, clinging to its rough surface with its hands. This figure stood out starkly from its surroundings, and nothing similar was seen in Klauson and Avarella’s other photos. Considering the scale of the area, the height of this figure was around 6 meters (19 feet)!
The girls couldn’t figure out on their own what it was—whether it was truly something supernatural or just pareidolia—and so they asked for opinions online. Responses were equally divided: some thought it was the odd roots of some creeping plant, while others believed it was a humanoid, like a wendigo. Some even suggested returning to the spot to examine it closely, but the girls said that while they would love to, they didn’t want to undergo such a grueling 15-day trek to that area again.
According to Avarella, they only noticed this figure when she decided to view the mountain photos with her family on their TV screen. Then her father suddenly asked what that was, hanging there. “And we all just stared at it, like, ‘What the heck is that?’” Avarella pondered. “It could be a piece of rock. But it has all the signs of being something human. The anatomy is so human-like that it’s seriously bizarre,” she reflects. “I like to think it was an alien,” Klauson adds.
