In 2001, in the Canadian province of Quebec, director William Reeve filmed a documentary titled “The Great North,” focusing on local wildlife.
It was only after the film was released that someone accidentally noticed a strange creature in one scene, which looked most like a gorilla—or perhaps a yeti…
This creature appears for just a few seconds in a scene with caribou running along the shore of a waterbody. In the background, at the center of the frame, something black suddenly emerges, seemingly running on its bent hind legs for a couple of seconds before putting its front limbs on the ground and disappearing behind a hill.
From this distance, it’s hard to make out details, but the front part of the creature—its head and limbs—does not resemble those of a bear, but strongly resembles a large primate, specifically a gorilla.
It appears that this creature was startled by the large herd of running caribou and thus hid for cover. Initially, it may have been running to attack a deer but overestimated its abilities.
Naturally, gorillas are not native to Canada, and primates, in general, do not inhabit North America. No one has ever heard of gorillas escaping from zoos or circuses in Canada.
The excerpt with this strange creature was posted online eight years ago but didn’t attract much attention at the time. However, recently it has gone viral. Unfortunately, the film’s director, William Reeve, passed away three years ago.
However, he had expressed his opinion about this creature during his lifetime. He first refuted the suggestion that it was a “local in a fur coat,” stating that besides his crew, there was definitely no one else around:
“Absolutely not. There were no strangers for hundreds of miles from where we were. It was just us, and we had a very small team of only nine people.”
Reeve also dismissed the idea that the figure could be a bear, pointing out that the area was on the very northern edge of the bear’s range and noting that the crew had not seen a single bear during their entire time there.
“Moreover, if a bear had chased after something, it would have run on all fours and in a horizontal position—but this object we see is more vertical and appears to be running on two legs.”
This video was also reviewed frame by frame by yeti enthusiasts, with some suggesting that it looks like the creature has a small baby on its back.
