A man who works for the Florida Highway Patrol, USA, wrote a letter to researcher of unusual creatures, Lon Strickler, with a story that happened to him 8 years ago.
At that time, he was still a relative rookie, having served in the police for only two years, and was not yet very familiar with the history of the area where he worked.
“It all started with a tragedy. I was working the night shift and we received a call that a fatal car accident had occurred nearby. I immediately drove there and was the first police officer to arrive at the scene.
When I called the sheriff’s deputies, they briefly told me what had happened: a completely naked man had walked onto the highway right in front of a speeding truck. As a result, parts of his body were scattered everywhere, and a pickup truck, possibly his vehicle, was found standing near the woods.
Later, the investigation showed that the man was mentally unstable and possibly had a nervous breakdown, which led him to decide to commit suicide by crashing his pickup into trees. However, he didn’t die, but the thoughts of suicide didn’t leave him. So, he got out of the truck, walked to the highway, took off all his clothes along the way, and jumped under the truck.
Strange things happened to me about a week after this incident. I was working in the same area, and the dispatcher received a call from a person who wanted to be picked up. This person was in the same place where the horrific accident had occurred a week ago.
The call seemed ordinary, usually drunk people call like this, having driven into a ditch and trying to direct the patrolman away from where they are so they won’t be arrested for drunk driving. So when I drove there, I didn’t expect to find anyone there.
I drove 40 miles and, of course, saw no one by the road. So I turned around and drove back. But about half an hour later, another call came in from the same person, again stating that he was in the same previously mentioned place.
I returned there and again found no one! And again, I turned around and drove back. I had already driven three miles when the dispatcher called me again and reported another call from the same person, supposedly still standing in the same place.
By the way, I hadn’t seen any cars on the road following me during all this time.
And so for the third time, I had to turn around and drive back to the same place. At this point, I began to think that some prankster teenagers or a vagrant were messing with us and hiding in the woods when I approached.
I decided to be clever. I arrived at the place, drove off the road to the tree line, turned off my headlights, and started watching the roadside.
About 10 minutes later, right at the same spot where the naked man had died under the truck a week ago, I saw a human figure. He came out from behind the trees to the roadside and was now walking toward the road. But as soon as I turned on the headlights, he instantly disappeared!
I decided to just leave, but… my car stalled! Honestly, this didn’t seem unusual to me, my Ford Crown Victoria had already logged 180,000 miles and could just break down, but the timing and place were damn strange.
I started trying to start the engine, and then the trees behind my car began to rustle suspiciously. Finally, the engine started, and I hurried to get out of there as quickly as possible.
A few days later, I was having breakfast with one of my old acquaintances and told him about that strange night. And he immediately told me, “Don’t go there alone at night. In that place in the 1990s, a policeman attacked a woman, kidnapped her, and killed her in the woods near the road.”
He then told me that many police officers’ cars suddenly stalled when they arrived at this spot.
Since then, whenever I pass by this place, something seems wrong to me. Even after they cut down part of the trees to widen the highway.”
